My opinion, if you disagree, duck you (this is for those 'AI-artists', who don't know what civil discussion is).
Alright, I am a beginner (medium?) artist, but I also have a degree in cybersecurity area. And conveniently, right now I'm working on my master diploma about implementing deep learning neuro networks into cyber security to analyse network traffic and recognise dangerous patterns (it's not all about generative AI, but it can be used here too). The point is: AI in general can be useful, can be used and can be needed. It has potential in certain fields, it's good for job automatisation, especially when you need something, that can analyse and learn itself.
BUT. AI is good only for boring, monotonous work, like going through network traffic, searching for patterns. It should be used to MAKE LIFE EASIER for people, who work with tech, it should be an advanced tool to use for searching data (with sources!!!), for recognising malicious patterns, for analysing huge amounts of data and making life easier for people to grab this data and WORK with it using THEIR own brains.
AI is NOT for fooling people, stealing their jobs, money and reputation (hello deep fakes, dangerous stuff). I admit, I am guilty of generating AI images. I was excited at first, so I tried generating and even posted few images (marking them as AI, of course). But the more you dig under the surface, the more long-term problems you can find regarding generative AI and other models.
AI is inevitable, yes, but it must find it's place in modern society, like Internet once did, like electricity once did. And generating AI art, literally stealing years of hard work from real artists IS NOT what AI was created for. If you, random AI-artist, don't think so, then personally I despise you as human being. Because cheating is never a solution and AI-generated art is cheating.
P.S.: Nuclear plants can generate electricity much more effectively and clean than any other form of 'non-green' plants, but nuclear bomb can destroy cities, continent, planets. AI can serve good for improving cyber security and automatisation process, giving people more free time to enjoy life, but AI also can destroy human brain, making decisions for humans and making them dependent on it too much (and yeah, "black box" problem. We don't really know 'how' AI works :) ).
P.P.S.: I hope I hadn't messed up info? If there's anyone, who knows more about inner working of AI, I would be grateful for corrections.
P.P.P.S.: I dare anyone call me a 'tech hater' or whatever the term was. I literally live with tech deep in my heart, mind and work. And I still am AGAINST using AI for generating images/videos/anything uncontrollably and with purpose of fooling people. Want generative AI? Fine. Pay artists for each art you feed to AI, create laws and regulations for AI, punish people for overstepping those laws. Would you want AI with that additions, huh, 'AI-artists'? Easier just learn how to draw yourself.
