Hi Sam, I found this video and it's been really interesting listening to you and your reasons. As many, I started to play with Midjourney mostly because I needed fast reference images for a casting (of real people) for a job, and in this way it's really helpful. Obvisouly I played a little also with "art" having fun generating some anime style images and such. Then, listening to you, I realized that there's a world of "ai artists" out there that uses this tool for generating "art". Now, maybe I'm naif but this surprised me. The word "artist" is something that I would never associate with this kind of tools. "Tech" would be more precise, since you need some technical knowledge (not that much nowadays to be honest) to generate these images with a certain degree of control. But they consider themselves "artists" and the way they attacked you made me think of an analogy: cyberbullying. There's an army of frustrated people that would never, never address anyone in a rude way simply because they're too scared of the consequences, but with internet anonymity they can vomit their hatred without risking a slap in the face. I don't think I need to explain more, there's a lot of people of this kind, cowards, out there. Here looks the same: a bunch of people without any artistic skill (and by that I mean the ability to draw in a proper way by themselves), too lazy to practice for years to get better, and they found their new toy and since there's this legal loophole their mind just went "oh f*ck the real artist, this is legal so I can do whatever I want with his work without loosing time learning how to do it myself". It's the beginning of a new era, we all agree on that, but the ethical problem of AI is something to consider very seriously, mostly because of this growing bunch of people unable to do anything (writing, composing, drawing, even take a nice photo) that found a digital friend doing the job for them (and by that I mean stealing from others ability and skills).
