While I don’t think I am the typical disabled individual AI supporters are thinking of, I am openly on the Autism Spectrum so here is my take on AI for art. I like to do most of my art traditionally, simply because I like to feel the pull of the paper beneath my pencil and the texture beneath my hand, but I also use photoshop all the time to touch up video-game screenshots. I use art to express my interest in a topic (basically fan-art). I invest many hours into one piece of work and I use the skills I have previously built, which gives the piece meaning. By giving your time and expressing your skill, you are showing how much a topic or subject means to you. AI takes a few seconds to generate an image and when it comes to skill, which is where many debate start, I believe it has none to speak of. When a human works on a skill, it is personalized, and at true mastery you create a new version of the skill (your own style). Coping and pasting an idea or skill is how you learn, yes, but it is not the end goal. It is not mastery, it is not personalized. AI copy and pastes different snippets of art to create its work. It is not personalized as it has no personal touch or external impute. It cannot think to add such a thing. You may argue the person writing the prompts is the creative touch, yet you cannot alter the core of the AI to give you exactly what you are looking for. You guide it on what to copy and paste, you don’t give it anything new. Therefore the final piece it produces has no meaning. No time was spent mastering a skill, and no time was spent utilizing the skill. So, as someone on the spectrum, I don’t want to use AI for art as it totally goes against the reason I make art. I’ll be happy when it dies out just like the NFTs.
