The only thing that confuses me about the story is where they got the girls voice from. Did this girl have audio online that the scammer could use to replicate her voice? Also, why would a scammer take the time to replicate one girls voice? Is this person a high profile person or something? To me the process that it would take to individually scam each person would be more work than it’s worth. Scammers can already put out thousands of scam calls at a time. I find it more likely that in the heat of the moment she didn’t realize that the voice didn’t sound like her daughters. Unless I’m missing something about this because the reporter didn’t give that much information. I’m not totally convinced that this story is real, but if somebody could give me more information, that would be great. I mean the scammer had to know that the woman would try to call her daughter or somebody that her daughter was with. This whole thing just doesn’t make a whole Lotta sense. I am worried for how AI will affect the world, but this is a little fishy in my opinion.
