I can tell you that the most likely scenario (and probably best) is that consumer AI inevitably dies because 90% of people simply do not care. AI will remain but it will be relegated to corners where the vast majority of people will never see it, into technology that requires pattern recognition (both good & bad) and most importantly for research. AI's greatest potential, and arguably the one with the least drawbacks, is in research for medicine, disease, ecology, etc simply because of how much data it can process and how quickly it can do so. Not to mention that when AI falls off from where it is in the public sector it will force some sort of realignment and will give potential for some much needed redistribution of wealth and resources from the very top so long as the government doesn't meddle too much to protect their benefactors.
