In five years, or less, we will all have an AI in our phones to talk to and execute tasks. How "alive" it is will be up to the user. For sure people will name their AI and either treat it like a friend or a talking pet. That's as far as AI will go for decades. Consciousness will remain a bridge too far in our lifetimes.
