I dont think the question of consciousness is an important one. The important one is if we can forsee the social, economic, environmental, military, and political impact of the current AI development. Conscious or not. And I think we can not predict that. But it certainly is not moving in the direction of individual freedom of speech and choice at the moment. And it is moving in the favour of oligarchs and dictatorship and censorship.
