A robot tax is an interesting concept in theory. But right now at this moment and for the last 40 years at least, third world countries have been doing exactly what the robots are about to do, and Bernie never suggested that we tariff imports for the benefit of our labor force. That's actually Trumps idea. In practice, this robot tax is exactly the same as Trump's tariffs. The wealth of a nation is the sum of it's products, services, and resources. If robots do 100 million jobs, everyone will be so so SO SO much more wealthy because of that, even if there is a rough period where people figure out how to make themselves valuable to others (Which is what a job is). To let another country beat the US at AI automation would be the immediate end of the free world as authoritarian rivals immediately overstep the US at a unbelievable pace. I think people, as in individuals, need to try to navigate this the best they can. There are many point in human history with trying challenges and it's part of the human experience for everyone to brace themselves and try their best to navigate the situation, I don't understand how anyone thinks the government, especially the federal government, has the raw computational capabilities to come up with any one-size-fits all solutions to this impossibly complex automated revolution we're about to undergo. Also specifically talking about the humanoid robots from Tesla, anyone can buy one and they're meant to be affordable investments like a car. So this could be a way for millions and millions of people to actually start their own businesses. The unknown is scary, but before industrialization everyone was dirt poor standing in animal shit constantly suffering, and we're going to look back at this point before AI automation and we're going to think the same thing.
