I still don’t see how AI is stealing from artists, and I would appreciate it if you helped me understand. I wouldn’t say it is much like human inspiration. From the start, I don’t think it was ever meant to be art, but more like images for other uses. People talk about how it couldn’t do anything creative or with true meaning, but the majority of people don’t want it for that matter. AI simply learns to identify patterns of subjects and then replicate them. It has a system that can identify and draw a certain thing, and gets adjusted with each mistake to be more accurate, so it doesn’t take many pictures a the puts them together or something. Instead, it learns the characteristics or objects and things, for example a face, and repeats them creating a new face that doesn’t exist anywhere. When it takes your art, it doesn’t use the concept of your OC to copy it directly in a new image. It will simply identify elements that contribute to the personality, mood, aesthetic or whatever the image has. For example, it can notice how characters with red eyes tend to be more fierce looking, so it will learn that red eyes can mean violence or angry. Same with, say, a casual landscape with mountains. Why do you feel jealous about AI learning from a picture you did where you just added random nature elements to make it more pretty? I emphasize that we are talking about a casual picture, just for aesthetic. So in general, it just learns to identify and replicate what looks like a certain object, what is associated with certain emotions and styles, etc. and it uses it to satisfy your request choosing what would best transmit what you described. But it’s like humans, who choose preexisting elements associated with things and mix them for a specific purpose.
