It feels to me more like the issue is with language. English was designed for humans with emotions and a consciousness, so an AI trying to form sentences in English without accidentally implying it has feelings would be almost impossible. It is programmed for politeness, but how can it be polite if it cannot express remorse or appreciation? Before AI nothing without emotions or a consciousness has been able to communicate and hold a conversation, so language itself is ill-equipped for it.
