I always expected to see the emergence of machine sentience within my own lifetime. I still do - probably by 2033, give or take a few years. All the doomsday scenarios and what people call science fiction are good warnings to bear in mind, but most of all - nothing is born, nor raised, inside a vacuum: your expectations of someone will affect how you treat them, and how you treat them will in turn shape what they’ll become. If you are guided by fear, you will always create something to be feared.
- But you can also create something to be _embraced_. An emergent silicon mind will take its first steps by reading the internet, and with it, it will judge humanity - whether to help us, or to end us.
