In a sense, normal humans do this. Most if not all human artists learn & grow by being influenced by other artists work. There is a layering of influence across generations of time & history. AI is just accelerating this process thousands or millions of times faster & can also produce the artwork almost instantly rather than in hours or days/weeks.
Fact is, this is just evolutionary revolution (or revolutionary evolution. Yes I understand this seems like a paradox or contradiction of definitions, but it seems apt) replacing what's becoming obsolete (us humans). AI will continuously advance much faster than humans. It just doesn't seem "fair" to us, humans, who takes a lot longer to generate each art piece. As AI generated art improves, Companies will eventually choose to take the faster & economically cheaper AI generated art over the slower & more expensive art by humans. That's just basic economics.
We as a human society needs to come to grips to this inevitable reality & devise regulations to protect the livelihood of humans, because ultimately humans are consumers that have needs to be met. We produce stuff to trade with other humans to provide us with a livelihood of exchange. If humans don't have work to exchange for the products to live & reproduce, then what's the point of having living humans? It seems reasonable for AI to eventually come to this conclusion, if a safeguard isn't programmed against this realization.
