I got fired because of that too.
I was promised to be moved to another department of the company but was fired pretty much right after. I feel the same as you about that- the company is not wrong for this but it really sucks that people like us can't keep up and work in the company/industry we love because our skills can be easily replaced.
I worked in Backend/Support and they planed to automate the Backend with AI and ironicly I was in the team that trained the AI thast got me fired. I was so happy to go to the big support team because this was literally my dream job...but well....
