It's going to be a push and pull between governments and corporations--AI is going to destroy generations of future citizens / taxpayers by creating economic environments that don't support them. That means fewer taxpayers and soldiers and worsening services in general. If we've seen anything over the past few months, governments *really* do not like population decrease.
I don't think an entertainment industry like gaming paints a complete picture of the situation. We're entering a dangerous and chaotic time of significant environmental, societal, and geopolitical change. The dice of civilization are literally up in the air, and I think there are too many factors at play to promise money-printing AI systems for the rich and crushing, permanent poverty for everyone else.
