The current AI is nothing like people make it out to be. I'ts an adaptive mimicry algorithm, nothing more. Once the novelty wears of it will be implemented in games (valve), and most importantly as a user interface - its main use. There are many other AI systems that do certain things outside of this, as large-scale data analysis, pattern recognition and many more, but at its core it simply has no capacity for sentience. Very literally it is a new tool that is yet to be fully utilized in a functional way for consumers. To achieve proper sentience, AI must be self-directed and the current neural network structure simply devolves into chaos extremely rapidly if self guidance is allowed. The problem with achieving sentience is that natural processes had given vast checks and balances for the brain to not deteriorate, these are the key components that can't be achieved with the node weight structure. A 100 neurons in a petri dish are literally more powerful than the whole openAI network, even the experimental one. The node structure can't support anything more than regurgitating compiled data
