hello. long infodump comment incoming only vaguely related to the video, proceed with caution. you have been warned. mostly just me rambling about some art related thing i like a lot to prove some sort of point maybe possibly so i like. spamton. from deltarune. (name is self explanatory, he is literally a ''ton'' of ''spam'') cause i find what toby fox did with him to be really interesting cause i feel like a lot of other people would've just kinda gone for ''the usual'' tropes and leave it off there but the way it was handled in deltarune was...not that, instead he winds up being oddly plot relevant and a really cool villain character that is genuinely kinda scary at times despite the character on paper sounding like a comic relief character and nothing more really. i think a lot of it, for me, has to do with the idea of a guy who was at least implied to be pretty normal once changing so much for the worse that they become completely unrecognizable and instead becoming a weird uncanny caricature of themselves. cause like...thats *realistic* horror, that could very reasonably happen and it *does* happen and it freaks me out. like imagine being one of ''the addisons'', seeing this guy who you _supposedly_ used to know and care about and you find them again and he's like...*that* after them practically disappearing for actual years. jesus...or imagine being the main character, kris, seeing this guy be one of the only ones in the game that is fully aware of the _players_ existence, like, OUTSIDE of the game, asides from kris themselves, and seeing them also mirror almost 1 to 1 your exact situation and desperation for ''freedom'' just to actually die at the end right as he's supposed to achieve it and right as it seems that he might be approaching redemption/rehabilitation (in pacifist route). oh my god. oh my god. by the way, all of what i just described is attributed to the same character who canonically says ''minecrap.'' what the hell. I originally got into the deltarune fandom when i was not doing very well, and because this was also back when chapter 2 was still very new, this (among other things) created a perfect catalyst for me to gain a really strong hyperfixation on you know who that...still hasn't gone away, actually, although my mental health is better now (most of the time) the reason why i mention this is because about a year later i decided to pretty much make a ''ripoff'' (not really) of the character just for fun. (the main difference was that my character was instead a stand in for those old, obsolete digital computer buddies from when the internet was still new, this is still relevant to the character today but pretty much everything else has changed) ...but i ended up accidentally creating a character that was a complete reversal of spamton instead, likely due to creating & writing _that_ character around the time where i happened to start feeling better and having parts of myself bleed into what i was writing. so in the end a really weird and interesting thing happened where both characters kinda went on to represent two closely connected but very different parts of my life, one unfortunately being marked by trauma and anxiety, while the other is conversely defined by healing and acceptance, and with one almost literally growing out of the other and into itself. i think that's a really cool story to tell, i _love_ seeing stuff like that happen with my characters because it feels like they grow with me and none of that would have happened if i relied on AI. there was also the fact that my character was my first attempt at a more focused/thought out character designed and then seemed to almost immediately also become one of if not my most well liked character despite me never expecting that to happen which wound up serving as my introduction to wanting to learn character design more seriously, something that i'm still interested in. (i also suspect that his shift in character was also influenced by peoples unexpectedly positive reaction to him, which might have affected the way that the character developed in my head. i think the idea of that is really sweet, even if or maybe even especially because of the fact that none of _that_ was intentional either, that those people's positivity towards a character i made in turn changed the character, as if they could see the love that they were receiving. that might have also led to my current idea for what i wanna use him for, too. it's cool) recently, i've been slowly working on a fan design for spamtons ''NEO'' form (if you don't know, spamton is both a mandatory miniboss as well as an optional megaboss...(?) don't remember if that's the right term...), with his ''NEO'' form referring to the latter. I want to focus primarily on themes of corruption and decay, because i feel like those are the main things that both interest me and scare me so much about the character. He becomes a long, vaguely avian creature with talons and a stretched neck but his face remains the same. instead of the big angel wings he wanted, he instead gets these worn and tattered bat/demon like wings with some feathers lazily tacked on. maybe they were really the angel wings he imagined at some point, but now they're nothing more than rotten leftovers of something that might've been. his body is now intrinsically linked to the machine, only able to carry on through a grotesque vessel that's decaying with him in it, he has a faulty ''sash'' made of the same ''strings'' that hold him, it now restricts him even further, only artificially resembling something righteous. maybe the most disturbing part of it isn't the body itself but the fact that he's unknowingly and willingly trapped himself in a machine that could never hold or sustain him. he's so happy with this new body and so oblivious to what it really means to anyone but himself, because to him, this is what he wanted. he no longer resembles himself beyond name ...i know that it's probably really ironic that i like spamton so much considering the type of character he is and what he's obviously parodying but i think that's more of a testament to toby fox's ability to write good characters because i feel like if anybody else wrote him i would have ended up _hating_ that guy but because of the way he _was_ written and characterized by the human artist i instead wound up weirdly hyperfixated on the guy and finding him really interesting as a character. not only that but also somehow getting me to genuinely care and get invested in whatever the hell is going on/happened to him & wanting to see him (maybe) get some kind of redemption arc later on and even trying to also write that myself because, again, hyperfixation, i don't know what else to tell you & i know that this probably sounds weird as all hell for anyone who isn't already familiar with deltarune and i'm sorry i think that the way that i imagine his ''NEO'' design and all of the meanings attached to it could also be somewhat applied to a more general idea of greed separated from the character itself, which could _also_ be applied to this idea of art as a product to be bought and sold that some of the AI ''artists'' i've seen seem to have. this was an afterthought, but this _was_ actually something i was thinking about and trying to get across with the design in the back of my head. i'm excited to see how it looks when i actually finish the thing. i hope i was able to freak someone out with the description or mildly spook them at least also the creator of the video seems to be actively reading the comments so DM Quil if you see this, i'm so sorry, unfortunately i'm autistic and i have to make comments like this on occasion or else i will explode and probably die 👍 thank you for reading if you read this. i'm sorry. please be nice to me. i'm sorry.
