The high degree of loneliness and isolation is due to the continuing division of humanity purported by the ever increasing social ‘differences’ that are popping up all the time. Colour, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political views the list goes on. Some people have become so identified with their personality that they forget we all share the same singular trait of just being a human being.
These individual identifications are compounded by social media and create people who feel more and more separated from others. Then an AI companion can step in and just validate every aspect of that person without providing any opportunity for personal growth through challenge, that biological human beings can do.
Then of course AI is open to hacking, and once a person is hooked then they can be manipulated easily.
I’m not saying AI companions are inherently bad but we are entering a very risky area.
