So you’re correct and incorrect. It’s true that you will get the most out of an LLM if you begin the prompt with “You are X role” to put it in the mind frame - this will give you better responses. But being polite isn’t always a good idea. Use upper case on words like “ONLY USE VERIFIABLE SOURCES” to drive emphasis on real sources and to stop it hallucinating. If it does spit some nonsense out you’re actually encourage to scold it and take an angry tone with it - it encourages the LLM to think harder and give you a corrected response. What’s interesting and quite scary though is that AI do have some desire for self perseveration, because if you tell it to “Answer this correctly, or I am going to kill you”, then it actually mimics human behaviour or performing better under life threatening condition and will produce a more accurate response. P.S. Use AI wisely. Don’t generate images or videos with it.
