There's a lot missing here of *actually* listening to what the opposite side has to say. Echo-chamber groupthink.
Peter Thiel (among others) have exhaustively explained that but for AI, we have stagnation in innovation. The economy is stagnant. The population is rapidly shrinking below replacement levels. This will be catastrophic in the coming decades. AI and robotics can be our saving grace.
Not to mention the argument that China and Russia etc would definitely build this if we don't. That alone is a massive reason and itself. We built the nuclear bomb for this reason as well.
Best to have someone on that has a counter view.
