Lol, it is messed up, but of all the jobs that are going to disappear because of AI, it seems weird that artist is the one everyone is making a big deal over. So the five or so people making concept art for the major game companies might lose their jobs. Oh and there's the guys who make spray paint art on the streets, they'll be in trouble when we give those AI's a robot body and a hat to wear backwards. Plus there will be the one or two artists who have set up shop in each rich mountain town because it's pretty easy to convince inherited wealth ski idiots that art is worth a small fortune. That aside, I think it's important to realize that of all the jobs that will actually be taken over by AI, artist is probably the least in danger. It's comes down to the fact that people paying for art only do so for a few reasons, they're rich dummies who can impress other rich dummies with expensive crap. There are the people who pay money to see their kinks represented on Patreon which I doubt that will be replaced by AI because of the fuss it will make with concerned parents. And lastly, you have art patrons, who buy art from non established artists simply because it's someone they love and care about, or because it's an artist that you feel like, yeah cool, you have learned how to do one art skill and probably need this small sale to keep functioning or you'll be screwed. I.E do I really want to walk around with a tiny flower made out of garbage in my pocket all day, nope. But at least that person is attempting to do something to earn money instead of just asking me for change. Point is, of all the things that people produce, art only has value, simply because we say it has value. And I have my doubts that people who would normally be paying for art would spend money on an AI generated image. Because your really only paying for the skills of the artist, not because the art will keep your house from flooding, or because it will get you to work quickly. Sure bigger companies will probably use them when they can, but if you try those art bots, you'll realize. They kind of suck, those great pictures they show off are the 1%. What you really get always looks a bit wonky, and good luck getting something specific. And yes I know the technology will get better, but you have to ask yourself, if you got into a field where the only way you can make money is to convince people that what your making has value even though it has no actual function, will a program plopping pixels down actually threaten your livelihood? I realized this whole rant sounds a little crass towards artists, but that wasn't my intention, so allow me to offer you a little hope. When all of the construction, transportation, programming, production, and medical jobs have been replaced by AI, and everyone is sick and dying because the only employment will be CEOs of AI companies and YouTube personalities, at least artists will be able to pay for their Soylent green with the ad revenue they get making people forget about their lives. If you think about it, in a few decades you might have a leg up on everyone else. Good Luck!
