If I ever got good enough to do commission art, I absolutely would plug other artists who inspired me. Also, as someone in a job related to manufacturing/fabrication, I think your point about the dubious need for generative """AI""" is well made. Tools are created for specific purposes, they fill a need that people discover that they have, which other tools either barely or can't fill at all. At least when it comes to these scraper-powered image or text generators, I don't see a specific need to be filled. I've never seen a piece of AI art that was satisfying or especially that I would ever in a thousand years pay money for on it's own or as part of some other project. AI tools do have their uses, and those uses are pretty silent compared to what AIbros sling allover twitter 24/7. A good example was that it was used to generate assets and textures for the Kingdom Come Deliverance games, devs who were real artists made some great models for trees and paints and textures first, and then used AI to create many similar permutations of those things which were all slightly different. This means the human artists still put real work, time, and effort in, but they didn't have to do pointless crunch work tweaking sliders all day long for months. This is a good case where a tool was used for a specific purpose and where it would have been impractical for humans to try and do the same thing without said tool. The result is forest and texture tools that the devs could use to quickly populate the map with entirely unique trees which all look like they fit together with one another, or paint textures onto things like buildings which are all subtly different but still consistent, and which are only based on the in-house work already done by competent human artists.
