I am also a physicalist, and as a consequence of that, I know that it is possible to create an artificial intelligence at least as smart as the smartest human. That's just a given. HOWEVER, I dont think that current generative AIs and transformers are what will get you there. Theyve already trained them on the entire sum of human knowledge and they're still pretty dumb. It would require a paradigm shift in architecture to approach true human intelligence.
