6:23 I'm right in the middle of this in terms of age. We just bought a house this year with A LOT of help - it's an old fixer-upper which was in the family, so we got a good deal on it and got a lot of financial help for the down payment. Extremely lucky, of course, but the point is that this would've been impossible for us to do without that help in the next 5 years. Even if we saved every penny we could save in that time. And my partner and I are in STEM fields.
This AI speculation, 50 years of financialization (which has become a cult-like phenomenon amongst the financial class in the past 20 years), then the recent inflation and price gouging, and then the interest rates on top of all of that are keeping even those of us who "made the responsible choice" poor. That's without even mentioning student loans or retirement savings. Now how is someone like me supposed to feel good about having a baby? It feels like me and everyone in my age group and below are so incredibly fucked. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be born into different circumstances. This story should be more radicalizing to most people.
