Today layoffs have nothing to do with AI. Sure LLMs (and the following models) are going to involves layoffs, but in the 10 next years. The number of organisations who are *already* able to replace humans with AI is very very small. Today layoffs are more about a global crisis, with inflation, a US president disturbing the world economy, the invasion of Ukraine, climate warming (just the beginning...), etc. So sure, AI will take jobs, as robots did in factories decades ago, but it just means more time for other activities, at least with the proper political regime (not all for the already most wealthy).
