That sounds like a step towards artificial self-preservation
Though I don't think AI would become conscious, but it can learn and emulate human perceptions and responses. That's good enough for it to, at some point, see humans as a threat and wage war against humanity the first chance it gets. And it'll be a lot better at it than us.
