I think this was a reasonably nuanced video but feels kind of willfully blind to it's own points. The super distill it down, I think you're largely saying "what is the point of AI art if it lacks the artist". But a lot of your points dance around an obvious answer: the money. Certainly everyone wants to believe they are an artist, especially these days, because it is potentially so profitable. Like in your John Adams paraphrase, Soldiers & Farmers -> Lawyers and Doctors -> Artists and Poets, which is true, the modern gold rush is youtube videos, tiktok, and leveraging that into being a micro celebrity in some way. So if we all have infinite tiny poets & artists in our pocket, and we are all "artists" insofar that we want to make art that makes money, using tools to create that art is the only possible outcome. Soldiers and Farmers were massively "automated" with advancements in technology. Doctors and Lawyers in less obvious ways, but certainly still are. Now "art" is the modern gold rush, because everyone has too much free time and a desire to consume. If everyone considers themself an artist on youtube, tiktok, instagram, making movies, making tv shows, making strange commissions on their tablet, making every form of media, then the term has become so diluted it doesn't mean anything close to what it used to. Everyone is an artist because they want to make money. AI is a tool that makes it easier. It's inevitable. I hate slop as much as anyone else, obviously, but soon AI slop will just be indistinguishable from all the non-ai slop. Maybe then it will mean something again to shine through as an "artist". This is going to sound ridiculous, but I think there's a parallel between what you're saying and someone 80 years ago saying "war shouldn't be fought with bombs and technology, it should be found man to man on the ground". You're making appeals to authenticity that just don't exist outside our sensibilities. Profitable industries will be automated, now and forever. Good thing or bad thing, doesn't matter, it's happening and will always happen. To tell people to ignore the advancement is willfully sending them to the front lines, of wasting 1000s of hours on a skill that is being rapidly devalued.
