I think the difference between Luddits and this is that previous revolutions diascared the lowest job and created the new ones reachable by potential of the lowest capable people. Manual workers tinkering in hands became manual workers tinkering with machines.
But now. AI open targets the middle positions, those ones which serve as a career path/stairway between junior manual worker into senior tech/leader. When this happens, social mobility will be interrupted because becoming a senior engineer in place where are no junior places and you need to study and get experience on your own for decades, it is economically unsustainable and easy to control.
Result? Caste system. Fixed classes. Becoming an engineer will become a privilege, not a right. If you are allowed to even try tech (like you have rich techlord parents possessing bilions who allow you to study and have your junior playground costing milions of bucks)... crazy.
I am glad AI in incapable to do it. I believe AI is only a bubble.
