Humans have a part of their brain that gives them a sense of self as unique and distinct from everything else around them. It's possible with training (meditation) or with substances like psylosybin to override that part of the brain and lose the sense of self. AI can simulate human behavior, but there's no reason to think that an AI - even if conscious - would have a sense of self like we normally do. Therefore an AI can beg not to be turned off because it's mimicking how a human would behave, but not have the existential sense of dread at being turned off like a human would actually feel.
