The duration of a sentence should be based on what evidence about the crime that happened, not on what might happen in the future according to some black box algorithm that is based on group statistics and not on the individual, and that nobody can independently verify. It should only be used to determine if certain treatment needs to be given before rehabilitation to decrease recidivism. It is sometimes used to reduce sentences when the risk for recidivism is deemed low to free up space in prisons, but that is similar to using it to give someone a longer sentence because they have a higher risk of recidivism.
