If the writer used the artist’s original designs and drawings, then the writer stole the artist’s IP. NOT the other way around. You can’t protect an idea. You can only protect a design (or writing or recording etc) that is in a tangible medium/ form. So the artist could use her own drawings and… if she really wants to be petty ( I would), use AI to write a new script for her drawings, and sell the work herself. Honestly, I’m not completely against AI, although, it’s NEVER as good as human made stuff, for anything (and is sometimes flat out incorrect for research btw) but people need to use it ethically. IMO that means, come up with your own stuff and steer clear of using someone else’s work. If you use prompts to create your own stuff, sure why not? Lots of people are paid to train the legit models at least, so it isn’t stolen. I mean, you’ll probably need to fix it anyway to make it usable. Cause most of what comes out is garbage. But have at it. Bottom line, ai does give some people a chance who otherwise can’t afford to pay an artist or writer for the part of the work they aren’t able to accomplish. In such cases, I guess the artist or writer isn’t losing work, cause there was no scenario where they would get the work. But, in this case it seems like the writer just waited to get most of the artistic work for free from the artist dangling the possibility of future paid work only to steal it. Even worse, the artist thought they were friends. That’s just evil. I sure wouldn’t want that writer’s karma…
