Honest question, as someone who is still forming an opinion on the topic (not that I'm new to it, I'm just uncertain about where I stand in this particular edge case). What would you say about using an AI generated picture as the starting point of a work that is then heavily edited by a person? This is no random question: I suck at composition. Eventually I'll get better at it, but this can be a mean to that end. I can draw better hands over those generated horrors, and I can alter the face of my characters to make them look something else than the usual "AI face". I can move arms around to get a better anatomy. I can use levels and layers to achieve a personal color style that the AI has no idea about. I know I need to get better at composition, but maybe this is the way for me to get there. Would you find this workflow/approach unethical, and if so, why? I agree that not knowing the source of my inspiration is a sad state of affairs, but could it still be argued that the final product is not my creation? I've never shared anything I produced this way, and I still have to make up my mind about whether I want to do so or not, based on ethical concerns voiced by artists. You seem to understand the technology well, so I'd really value your informed opinion on this.
