we have LIDAR robot equipment at my job (Tennant-Nobles floor scrubbers), they are pretty good at avoiding obstacles, but maybe err on the side of being too cautious. it's a very good system tho, esp with cameras alongside. yeah automakers are cheaping out, playing %'s and statistics
