If you want to know if "A Toaster" is "Alive" or "Conscious"...I suggest you check "The Leavins Tray." Prolly all kinds of "Conscious Life" living down there. And what about "B Toaster?" Just because you prefer "A Toaster"...that does not make "B Toaster" inferior. ;-) Another thing that you might consider, is installing mirrors next to your toaster. Also allows time for reflection as you ponder you next purchase of Anti-Bacterial soap and/or kitchen cleaner, as you shove Probiotic Yogurt into your piehole while waiting on your toast. If you design/build/program "A Toaster" to talk to you, why would you be surprised that it does just that? If you design/build/program "A Toaster" to learn, why would you be surprised that it does just that? If you wanna see "Artificiality"...I suggest you read the ingredients label on the bread packaging that contains the bread you are about to slide into that carcinogen creating bread browner. Prolly all KINDS of artificiality in there, and all kinds of "artificiality" rabbits to chase. From the packaging itself, to the twist-tie that closes it, to the taxes incurred on each and every ingredient and the bread itself, to the people that work to make that bread, to the people that work to make the machines that make all that shit, to the people who transport it here and there, to the ground that grows the plant and plants that are grown and cared for irrespective of the farming methods, to the water and waters that facilitate this growth irrespective of irrigation and/or rain and/or atmospheric moisture(s), to those who regulate it, to the sun than shines one it, the the chucklehead that selected that particular loaf and brought it home to ponder how cool it would be if his/her toaster could talk to them...assuming that all of that bread will be used for toast.
