As a computer scientist that studied AI for a while i can say for sure that there are gaping holes in silicon valley's predictions. 1.Safety : These "self driving " vehicles follow the rules and lines of the road,which is a very predictable behavior,what happens when the road lines are washed out ?the cars start to loose their direction. What happens when something happens that requires intuition, driving off an under construction bridge for example : a human will stop,an AI driven car will not. 2.The Tech : These companies claim that their cars have driven millions of miles and have had only 4 minor accidents,well that's because they have humans in them right now,and they are probably lying too. 3. Until an intuitive AI is developed this whole thing is flawed,because every day humans overcome scenarios where even the billion dollar IBM Watson will give up,they are just not able to think this way. 4.These AI driven cars are a great driver aid and help to take of the stress of driving,but they are far far away from being fully autonomous. 5.These corporations will try to shove this down our throats but as soon as we have a large number of AI driven vehicles accidents will start to happen,in large numbers too. 6.Wait for fully Intuitive AI that can think like humans.
