I don't get how this scenario is plausible. Wouldn't a self driving car be programmed to keep a safe distance from vehicles in front of it so it can always have a safe stopping distance? Or alternatively be programmed to travel at a speed where if an impact occurred the occupants of the vehicle would suffer only minor injuries?
