Wouldn't it be easier to just.... NOT give robots pain/happiness? Like if you want a robot to mine you don't make him capable of not wanting to because that would be unnecessary, cruel to force a being to feel pain when it is optional and an obvious decrease in efficiency as it's no longer a willing person mining but instead a robot forced to mine.
Discriminating against robots is much different to discriminating against other life forms, humans will eventually *literally* have control over _every_ aspect of a robot/machine and if they dislike a robot it's their *own* fault for creating it. Other life however we can't change to a large degree (Still doesn't justify discrimination though)
