You create a child. That child has rights (well.. depending on where they live I suppose, some more than others). So if we were to create something artifical, yet could still free think, feel and process emotion, etc, we would need to establish rights for it. We can't just become a bunch of sadists. Just because something is created, even artifical, doesn't mean it somehow automatically shouldn't have rights.
