Any breakthrough we had so far have affected in a bad way only to select number of individuals. For example, printing baisically made re-writers unneeded, but only them, cars did so with grooms (but also created lots of other jobs), and so on. Robots with advanced AI can replace potentially every human, including those who make maintenance on them. And if every human will have no job, economy will collapse. It may be ethical, but certainly needs to be controlled.
