I think that the tur(n)ing point (get it?) is consciousness. If, one day, humans can understand where consciousness comes from and be able to replicate it in robots, only then will we have strong AI. Of course, I can't know for sure whether or not there is a single other person out there with consciousness (because I do believe that the only thing I know for sure is cogito ergo sum), we have to assume, for these purposes, that knowledge does, in fact, exist.
