Freight haulage is the first thing to go. There is no part of that job which can't be automated, it's bullshit but it's true. If you look at the supply chain you can already see that there are many ports around the world which are near fully automated already and logistically this just the next step. Automated systems don't need to stop to sleep or eat or get a handjob from a hooker. They will always drive bang on fuel efficiency and will function 24/7 always on. The cost savings will be immense. Jobs in the industry will fall like a house of cards. It will be overnight too because from that very first implementation other companies simply won't be able to compete in the market when using human drivers. Sure there will be issues at first like theft but even that loss compared to the insane savings in transportation costs will be a drop on the ocean. Yes it's going to be completely shit for people but it is coming and putting your fingers in your ears and saying "la la la I can't hear you" isn't going to stop it and isn't going to help what will be a vast number of people who will get fucked by it. Which is precisely why we don't need to talk about this "if" this is feasible, we're way through the looking glass on that already. We need to focus right fucking now on how to mitigate the huge social and economic damage that will impact a huge number of everyday working people.
