I personally think that giving robot Sentience and the consciousness would be a grave mistake. Sure, it has benefits, but the benefits do not overpower the downsides and the Grim possibilities of them being self aware. there would be far too much at stake just to give some robot "life" just so it wouldn't make mistakes.
