The idea is that, instead of spending $2M/year on a team of programmer salaries, the boss can just spend $100k/year on an AI subscription and get software just as good, or even better. That's the sales pitch. If you put enough marketing muscle behind it, people will buy it, whether it works or not. The executive pays himself a huge bonus for cutting costs. By the time consequences show up, he's already gotten promoted into a different job and now it's somebody else's problem.
