A big part of the problem is that *these aren't real banks*. For the most part it's not, like, Wells Fargo or JPMorganChase funding this crap, it's like SoftBank and various Silicon Valley VCs and private equity.
Which at least in theory means it won't be the taxpayers' problem. But it's also a lot of the reason why this is happening because the FDIC can't go look at their books and say "what the fuck are you doing?"
