It’s very disconcerting to see the proximity of this to the bombing in Iran, the posturing about Greenland, Canada, the tariff wars, renaming the DOD to the DOW with (an) unstable megalomaniac(s) at the helm. Maduros capture was emboldening. This feels like an escalation in a bigger picture. The timing of the 5:01 deadline on Friday and then bombing Iran on Saturday in a coordinated attack with Israel that would have been planned for weeks or months…it’s suspicious to say the least. And sure. there’s a possibility the administration is reacting to the word no, throwing a tantrum like a three year old who can’t watch the next episode of Bluey. What is more likely is we’re entering a period of sustained armed conflict and Anthropic’s models are perceived as essential to that. Somewhere else on Reddit today I saw commentary that one of the reasons DOW wants these systems is because an AI can’t be tried for war crimes. I don’t think that’s a stretch, especially considering one of Anthropics red lines is autonomous killing. My short term memory is shit so the quotes escape me but in the CBS interview Dario talked a lot about national defence in a way that left me feeling uneasy given all this in the context of current state.
