Honestly, for me it wasn't much about shady deals than it was being a poor product on the latest versions, version 5.2 was pretty much a dumpster fire for my hobby projects. Switched to le chat, and it works better for my use case than chatgpt, and best of all their models and weights are open source, so they are less prone to bullshit like chatgpt 5.2 that becomes unusable overnight and starts insisting i calm down when i'm trying to debug linux usb-sata bridge mount drift at 3am on a weekend.
