This is an instructor who truly loves their career and is probably deeply hurt by what has happened. I would sit down and take the time to intelligently respond to their email. You don’t need to make them feel better, but having an open dialogue with them about something you obviously share a passion about (since your paper was anti-AI), they would likely find it incredibly refreshing and impactful.
