Regulating AI is, IMO, a possibility once job displacement becomes significant.  It really doesn't take a very high unemployment level to make a society crack.  It seems like a situation where you have 40% or higher unemployment is not going to be fun for anyone and at that point it makes sense to start regulating the most advanced AI models.   Using technology is not inevitable.  Amish people and hunter gatherers still exist.  Hopefully people will have some kind of choice in the matter.  If a country or state decides to ban or restrict AI, I'd probably move there because I see 90% of the effects on human society as being negative.
