I work in IT and while talking to some co-workers I'd predicted about 2 years ago that it'll take 3 years for the position of junior developers to dry up. It's happening a bit quicker than that. Internal positions aren't being posted for that role and the reason cited is that that Co-Pilot has been banging out tons of code that's passable for what they need. I anticipate that TechOps is about to see that as well in the next 3 to 4 years. Junior SysOps, Networking, Telecom, and Helpdesk are going to be less relevant. The kicker is that you only get senior role employees from juniors breaking into that role. No one starts at the senior role anymore. I anticipate, I'll be replaced right around the time I'm set to retire in 10 years, maybe a little earlier.
