Not sure why you think they're only touting AI will replace programmers, but the reason to focus AI on programming is obvious. You want to create a self improvement loop where AI can improve itself and that can only happen if it's good at programming. The actual jobs being replaced are like customer service, data entry, content generation, etc. Programming has only been augmented by AI not even close to replaced yet which is why AI companies are actively hiring programmers.
