>wouldn’t it also imply that AI could automate major parts of what lawyers get paid to do such as legal research or legal advisory? My wife is a librarian at a law firm. Legal research is one of her primary responsibilities. Her firm actually has an AI tool that they built on top of one of the major LLMs (I don't know which one). It is complete dog shit. The attorneys will use it to get a list of sources and send that to her to actually go find those sources for them to read. 90% of the cases it cites are just completely made up. AI is not good at software engineering. It is much better at software engineering than legal research.
